How To Pass
The information on the exams is challenging, and the material covered is not common knowledge. Following AP’s course study guide (included with each course) will give you the best chances of passing your exam on the first try.
Here is what AP recommends, based on our decades of experience:
- Watch all course lectures in order while highlighting and taking notes on our instructor’s key points to remember. Replay any videos you didn’t understand.
- Understand the content well enough to score at least 90% on chapter quizzes. Your first attempt at a quiz will tell you how well you are comprehending the materials.
- Take your state exam as soon as possible after completing the course. The longer you wait, the more you will forget.
- Check for course updates before testing.

I wanted to take a moment to share my experience with the Life and Health licensing process, as I believe it may offer valuable insights for others. FIRST AND FOREMOST, I found that while the quizzes provided through the course were beneficial, THEY DID NOT PREPARE ME FOR THE ACTUAL TESTS. Despite performing exceptionally well on the quizzes, I faced considerable challenges during the life insurance exam. it is worth noting that candidates are allowed only TWO ATTEMPTS ONLINE< AFTER failing twice, one must take the exam at a testing center. I found the questions to be particularly TRICKY, often employing interchangeable terminology that can easily lead to confusion. my advice is to thoroughly read the text book materials and approach each question with care. IF JACK SAYS ITS A TEST QUESTION, STUDY IT! Also, understand the QUICK TERMS AT THE END OF THE CHAPTERS.
Additionally, I encountered an unexpected setback during my second attempt on the life test, unfortunately, my privilege to take the exam online was revoked due to the use of my Chapstick, which was mistakenly interrupted as a form of cheating. I emphasize to future test-takers the importance of being cautions and adhering strictly to testing protocols to avoid complications
Regarding the health insurance test, my experience is similarly challenging. TODAY WAS MY SECOND ATTEMPT FOR THE HEALTH TEST- Failed the second time. I passed the national and failed the state part, the first attempt I passed the state test and failed the national test. I learned that it is important to note that candidates must pass both the national and state exams; failing one requires retaking both. this requirement added to my frustration, and I found myself in a prolonged study period of over three months. without success.
For anyone who thrives with direct instruction, I highly recommend seeking a class to assist with understanding the material. The material online provided by American professor in my opinion, aren’t effective as it would be with a live instructor. Conversely, if you are someone who excels at self study, the program can offer you valuable content for you to work through independently.
IN CONCLUSION, I want to encourage all prospective candidates to approach tests with patience and diligence. the exam format is designed to challenge you, often using confusing language, so reading questions slowly and carefully is crucial. If you find yourself struggling, I highly recommend reach out to PAT for assistance; he is excellent at explain complex concepts and can offer much needed support.
Despite the challenges I’ve faced, I remain optimistic and committed to achieving my health insurance license. I believe that with persistence and the right strategies, success is attainable.
I hope this reflection proves helpful to you! I am rescheduling my HEALTH TEST TODAY FOR WEDNESDAY! WISH ME LUCK!
AP RESPONSE: Hi Mindi, thanks for your feedback. The amount of time taken to complete the course definitely comes into play when trying to retain all the potential material you will be tested on. Be careful not to take the review questions over and over again as a way to retain the material as it usually only leads to students memorizing our questions. What’s important is the content in the video lectures and the book and that you be fully knowledgeable on that content when you go into take your exam. It’s a difficult exam for a reason and people often have to take it more than once. Sorry to hear you had a poor experience with the test provider. Unfortunately, we have no control over how they operate. I have shared your Chapstick experience with our team, hopefully they can help someone else from experiencing the same thing (I know I’m an avid Chapstick user too!). Pat said he’s been working with you and I have faith he will help you get past this difficult exam! Hang in there!
