The Best Way to Prepare for the South Carolina P&C Exam
If you’ve decided to get your Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance license in South Carolina, you’ve already taken the first step toward a rewarding and stable career!
Insurance is big business everywhere, including in South Carolina. Millions of people across the state need insurance products for their cars, homes, and treasured personal belongings—from boats and jewelry to musical instruments and artwork.
There’s no shortage of opportunities for insurance agents. But to sell or even discuss insurance, you need to have an insurance license. To get one, you need to pass your insurance licensing exam.
Is the South Carolina Property & Casualty Exam Hard?
We won’t sugarcoat it. The South Carolina Property & Casualty insurance exam is challenging!
According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), only around half (52%) of test takers pass the property exam on their first try, while just 47% pass the casualty exam on their first attempt.
But don’t let these numbers discourage you.
With diligence and good planning, you can ace the test. We know, because we’ve helped many students pass their insurance licensing exams on the first try. It’s a testament to what’s possible with hard work and dedication—and the right study materials.
Here are a few pro tips on how to best prepare for the South Carolina Property & Casualty exam.
Tip #1: Start studying early.
The Property & Casualty combo exam has 150 questions, and you will have 2.5 hours to complete it. This is plenty of time for most students.
To make sure you’re well prepared, start studying at least two weeks before your scheduled test date, but not more than four weeks out.
This way you’ll have plenty of time to learn the material—but not so much time that you forget things by the time your test date rolls around.
Put yourself on a strict study schedule and stick to it. Don’t rely on cramming a few days ahead. Research shows this is the worst way to study.
Tip #2: Know what is required on and before your test date.
To get your license, you must create an account with PSI Exams (the company that administers the tests), schedule your exam, and pay the required fee ($45).
You also need to decide whether you want to take a proctored (monitored) exam online or an in-person exam at a test center location.
On your exam date, you will need to bring one form of photo identification that bears your signature (such as a driver’s license, passport, or state-issued ID card). The name on your application must match the name on your photo ID exactly.
Make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment, even if you’re taking a proctored exam.
