Study Materials for the Montana Insurance Exam

When choosing study materials for the Montana insurance licensing exam, there are a couple of things to remember:

  • A quality insurance study manual should consist of all the material covered on the Test Content Outline (TCO). Every insurance exam provider has a candidate handout available for anyone who is taking the insurance licensing exam. The exam provider also has a TCO that will divulge everything being tested on, which should be covered in your insurance manual. Study manuals are usually made up of two sections, a national section and state section. The national section will cover most basic insurance terminology and concepts, where the state manual is generally full of state rules and regulations specific to Montana. Important: Make sure that when studying for the insurance licensing exam, you have an UPDATED manual or set of manuals as the TCO changes often, especially in Montana. There is nothing more defeating than to have failed the insurance exam because the materials you studied were out-of-date.
  • Many self-study course materials are now using instructor-led reviews and lectures. Make sure you are able to connect with the instruction being offered with your study materials. Be sure to look at a demonstration of the course materials to make sure they make sense to you and are of high quality. Beware of study materials that do not show examples or demonstrations of their product. Purchasing inferior study materials is a waste of your time and money!
  • No set of study materials is complete without comprehensive review. We feel that half of studying for the insurance licensing exam is being prepared for the types of questions you are going to be asked on the actual exam. Now don’t get me wrong, no one has or should have the exact questions on the licensing exam, but providers should at least be able to provide questions in a similar format (ex., multiple choice) that test your insurance knowledge in the same manner it will be tested on the exam. Review questions and review exams are half of the teaching equation, without them you are significantly lowering your chances of passing the exam.
  • Another important thing to remember is that you will only get out of your study materials what you put into them. Read and follow the study guide completely. The providers who teach this material do so in the best way for you to pass the insurance licensing exam the first time!

Hi James, A few years back the prepaid legal folks decided that they didn’t want to get a casualty license which meant passing the casualty exam (not much to do with prepaid legal), so they petitioned and got their own exam. I honestly couldn’t tell you who provides study material for that exam as there aren’t many people who take it. I would recommend asking the company hiring you if they have prep material for that exam. Alternatively, you can look at the test content outline provided by Pearson VUE for Prepaid Legal and search the statues. Please let us… Read more »
